I have been preparing for a very important market , "The Bath Artisan Market" http://bathartisanmarket.com/, really hoping it all goes nice and smooth.
When preparing for this market I had a really fun idea,
I have been hording dishes for a little bit too long now wondering what should I do with them and it suddenly became obvious, cake stands!!!
So....the first thing to do is make sure you have what you need.
First of all I had a pile of plates ready to be up-cycled.
Secondly I ordered some 3 tier cake stand fittings from the internet. Prices with these vary A LOT! in most cases, the more you get the cheaper each one is in the end .
- a pack of glass and ceramic drill bits, they usually come in 4 different diameters, 4,6,8 and 10. ( I have been using a 6 to match my fittings.) and this is what they look like.
I have used a pillar drill this time, but a hand drill or a cordless are just as effective and should make no difference whatsoever.
Start by looking for the center of the plate, some people put a sticky paper and mark it, but don't start drilling yet!
You can use a sponge to add the water as you drill, or simply create a small puddle inside the dish and drill through , ( always remember to have a cup underneath or something to absorb the water once the hole is done (!).
Now that you have lots of plates with holes and enough fittings you basically put it all together very easily.
And now you have your own UNIQUE CAKE STAND :)
